Oyster Bay is believed to have derived its name from the abundance of oysters in this lovely bay on the Georges River. One of the things that makes contemporary Oyster Bay so remarkable is that much of the flora and fauna found in the colonial era remains intact and it still has a thriving estuarine ecosystem.
Oyster Bay’s overwhelming attraction is its beauty and tranquillity. A mostly residential area, it offers an impressive array of large freestanding homes boasting spacious living areas and three or more bedrooms. Given its geography, most home sites in the suburb offer picturesque views and many homes are situated directly on the waterfront and offer boat moorings.
Although mostly residential, Oyster Bay is not deprived of dining options - The Blue Groper is a great stop if you’re after fish and chips, and there are plenty of other choices if you cross the suburb’s borders.
